Physical Teams Companion Phone

A "companion" phone is a supplemental physical phone that some users can use in addition to or instead of the Teams desktop phone application on their computers or mobile devices for operational or personal reasons.  Physical Teams phones are in limited in supply.  Our campus has a software-first approach to Teams Voice services.

Please open a service request for a companion phone here – your IT coordinator will need to know the ID of the data port you will be using.

Once you receive a physical companion phone

Please follow these instructions once you receive a physical phone from your IT coordinator.

For phones that will NOT be sharing a network jack with a computer, the phone can simply plug into the appropriate network jack that has already been configured by DoIT.

For phones that WILL be sharing a network data jack with a desktop computer:

  1. Connect ethernet cable coming from the desktop computer into the "PC" ethernet port located under the Yealink phone
  2. Connect another ethernet cable into the Yealink's "Internet" port located under the phone
  3. Connect the other end of this cable to the data jack that the desktop computer was originally connected to
  4. After making these connections, the phone will detect the network connection and prompt the user to sign in on the phone's screen (using one's campus credentials which includes full email address and CSULB password):  Yealink phone on-screen display
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions, which include:
    • Step 1: On your computer or mobile, go to https://microsoft.com.devicelogin
